i'm a novice trying to install a loaded pickguard
from looking at the site, i know that ground wire has to go to the tremolo claw in the back and two wires have to go to the input jack
ok... if I were to see a loaded pickguard, exactly HOW would I know which wire is ground wire and which wires are input jack wires?
also, for input wires, how would i be able to tell which one is positive and which one is negative?
finally, is installing a SSS pickguard really different from installing a... say, HH pickguard?
I've searched through the entire web, but there just isn't a simple guide for beginners (they all just say ground wire go to the tremolo claw and input wires go to the jack... or something like that)
help a noob out?

Either one of the black ground wires can go to the input jack. This link may help you some more: http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdf_temp1/stratocaster/0134600_4602B/SD0134600_4602BPg2.pdf .
There wouldn't be any difference a HH pickguard, all the pots would still be the same.

wow, thanks for the fast reply
so either one of the black wires can go to the jack and the other one can then go to the trem claw. and the white one would go to the jack, right...?
oh, and i read the other topic where you described that the one with the metal ring is to be screwed to the body. could you please be more specific on that?
one thing that worries me is that as you can see, I'm really short on the basic knowledge...... (though, i do know how to solder) do you think it's safe for me to actually start building a guitar, or do you suggest that I get my basics before I begin?

Yes, one of the white ones goes to the guitar. Does your pickguard have a metal ring? If it doesn't it is no big deal, it is just another way to ground out the pickguard.
I learned to build guitars by alot of trial and error. I would say the hardest part to build a guitar is if you were to wire your own pickguard from scratch. I think if you are willing to take your time building a guitar you should be ok, just research it and don't rush. The more time you spend building it usally the better it will turn out.

mine has a fourth string with a metal ring, but I really don't want to make any holes or screws that are not REALLY necessary.... so I think i'll just not ground that one...
as for the pickguard... i have a pre wired one. I don't think i wanna go as far as assembling my own pickguard from scratch yet...
so i guess i kinda have the hardest part taken care of already lol
thanks again man, you're awesome

oh, just one more (sry)
what would be the easiest way to drill a whole in the body or a neck?
I'm asking this because I'm sure it's gonna save my butt when I need to make pilot holes in the neck, screw holes for tremolo bar, or for pickguards whose screw holes don't match with the body...

really?
how do you make a perfect perpendicular whole with a dremel tool?
is there a device that holds the tool perfectly or something?

I just use them to get threw the paint. You may want a press drill, so you may have to go to a machine shop.
