I know this forum is for guitars but I thought someone might have general knowledge to share that would apply to all stringed instruments.
My grandson just started learning to play a viola in school. He's very proud of his new musical instrument and is learning quickly.
I wonder if there are any general tips for care that the school may not be teaching him.

I would assume just to wipe down the fret board after playing, and if he is going to store it for any amount of time to loosen the strings so it does not bow the neck.

Thank you for your reply. I will pass this information on to my daughter. I'm betting the viola will be unused for most of the summer months so loosening the strings may be something she wants to do.

I assume it's common to loosen the tension on the bow, too?
Also I think humidity may be a consideration - Since it's a wooden instrument.
I've seen acoustic guitar rooms in music stores that had the humidity controlled.

I know that humidity is important for any wooden instrument. I'll pass that along to my daughter as well. Thank you Ricardo.
