Do you like the Epiphone series of SGs and 335s?
I haven't played any recently, but I'd like to check them out. I hear they're pretty good these days.

I particularly like the white Les Paul Custom (SG custom)
3 gold humbuckers and that great white finish.
I've not been lucky enough to play the early sixties Gibson original, but I did like the Epiphone alot
As for semis, I quite like the Riviera with the frequenstor tailpiece.
The dot 335 is good too I guess, but the Riviera has that extra vintage vibe

I was curious about epiphone and gibson. I've heard that epiphone was actually Gibson's main rival in the archtop market. How did it happened?

I'd be curious to hear about that - I thought that Epiphone was a less expensive "division" of Gibson, or something like that...

I thought I might chime in here with my 2 cents . . . . .
I've owned 3 Epiphone and have been very dissapointed in two of them:
Both of my Epi acoustics' "E" strings ended up on the outer edjes at about the 17th fret and when fretting there they would slip off the fret board. I took it back within 3 days and noticed several more with the same problem.
It's almost as if the put on the wrong bridge (string spacing too wide) and cut the nut wrong.
The black E-335's pots were all noisey and popped when rotated. After about six months the fret board showed deterioration and discoloration and from the get go the nut was cut too low and the bridge had some issues.
I actually ended up with an Agile LP clone that has given me much pleasure with it's sound and quality. I replaced the Acoustic Epi with a Blueridge that is nothing short of spectacular.
My Fenders (all 3) have been a joy to own and have caused virtually no problems. My favorite axe to play is a Strat overall. Twice burned with Epi I doubt I'll buy another, Gibson if you're listening, you should check quality control and setup on these units! ;)
