I am looking at getting a new strat, and I am stuck between the american standard and the fat strat. I am unsure what would work with the music I play the most which is classic but somestuff like green day and weezer. would it be better to have the humbucker, or would it mess up the smoother sounding songs?

If you are into heavier stuff, the Humbucker will not hurt. I don't think it will keep you from playing "Little Wing". I have covered that song for years and I have always used position 4 for the main lines and position 5 for solo breaks. Those positions are unmolested in the Fat Strat.

Fat strat has 2 single coils in neck and middle position and a humbucker in the middle, and as far as i'm concerned, that's the only Stratocaster configuration to have!

You get the great smooth tones from the neck and middle pup, and all the full out rock you can eat on the bridge humbucker.

The Great Roy reccomended the DiMarzio "Fred" humbucker pickup for that location.. and who am I to argue with Roy?

I find a strat with a humbucker in the bridge to be one of the most versitile guitars ever assembled. In fact, i'd be willing to bet you can pull off just about any kind of music with a S/S/H Strat (provided you have quality pickups installed)

Remember it's not the TYPE of pickup (i.e. Humbucker/Single Coil/Soap Bar, etc) that makes the diffrence, but the QUALITY of the pickup.. altho a crappy humbucker sounds better than a crappy single coil any day!
