Sounds good... I'll check this out. I've really wanted to learn for a long time now and kept putting it off. Maybe it's time to learn finally. :)

I should have had this link years ago. My teacher wasn't very good and I never did really learn to play. Thank you for the link. :)

In the last couple years I pulled out a beginner's classical guitar book and learned a few very basic songs on a cheap but playable classical guitar. It is gratifying to play even pieces that simple.
Also the time spent with that guitar has helped my technique on my electric.
Good luck to anybody learning at any level. ;)

Hi Ricardo. :) How long have you been playing an electric guitar? Have you ever played in a band? I always wanted to play the guitar but it and I just didn't hit it off that well.
I thought that being able to play piano would help me but it didn't.

Hi ozzie
I've played guitar for over 30 years, but my first instrument is piano. I've played in bands for a living, and sometimes doubled on guitar.
I found it helpful visualizing the piano keyboard when looking for notes on the guitar's fretboard when I started.
To me it was less confusing at first to think about the piano, since you can only play each note with one key, (not counting different octaves) as opposed to the guitar where you can play the 5th fret on the low E string to get an A, or play the A string open to get the same note.

I think knowing how to play piano helped me to be able to find the notes too. What I couldn't seem to do well was hold down the strings. It hurt my fingers something awful!
I heard that one's fingers would toughen up after a while but I guess I didn't give it a long enough while. I've always regretted not sticking with it.

You've got a very good talent. I'm a music lover. I know how to play guitar and I can sing well. I guess we are qualified to form our own band. What do you think?

I'd love to start a band with you guys, shinningstar! ;)
Ozzie, when I started playing on electric, my fingers developed callouses which toughened them up. It took a while to be comfortable playing at that point.
I'd suggest when starting that a guitar with close action, where the strings are pretty close to the fretboard would be a good choice. I think this is why it would probably be easier on a good electric.
But it is nice to build the chops for acoustic, too. :)

I wasn't trying to learn on an electric guitar but it still really hurt my fingers. I guess they are very tender or something. I could play the piano fine though. :)
